Health Care Consolidation Project

2024 ~ Present | Co-advisors are from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Weill Cornell Medical College, CU Anschutz, The Medical University of South Carolina, University of Illinois at Chicago

Goals

To create and maintain an accurate, complete, publicly available, and timely panel database of US hospital mergers.

Issues Involved or Addressed

Given the large number of hospital mergers that have occurred in the U.S. over the past two decades, it is critical that researchers have access to reliable, comprehensive, and accessible data on hospital merger activity. Such a database does not yet exist, and the creation of one presents many challenges including the determination of the type, timing, and scope of historical deals between hospitals. Making these determinations involves integrating information from many disparate data sources on hospital ownership changes. The goal of this project is to create, maintain, and disseminate a hospital merger database by leveraging the skills and expertise of a multidisciplinary team of collaborators.
